In a closely contested session, the U.S. House of Representatives has pushed forward two major cryptocurrency bills, reviving momentum for federal regulation after earlier delays.
The Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins Act (GENIUS) cleared a procedural vote 215-211, setting the stage for formal approval.
The legislation would create a clear legal framework for stablecoin issuance and is expected to reach President Donald Trump’s desk later this week.
Lawmakers also advanced the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (Clarity), which seeks to define the roles of the SEC and CFTC in crypto regulation. Another bill under consideration would bar the Federal Reserve from launching a central bank digital currency (CBDC) for retail use.
No Democrats supported the measures, signaling a sharp partisan divide. Rep. Maxine Waters denounced the bills as dangerous, accusing the Trump administration of using them to fuel “a crypto scam.”
