- Emirates, Dubai Duty Free, and Crypto.com signed a major MoU to integrate crypto payments for travellers.
- Cryptocurrency payments are expected to roll out next year.
Emirates Airline, Dubai Duty Free, and Crypto.com have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at working together on the potential use of cryptocurrency as a payment method for travellers, both at physical retail locations and through online platforms.
This agreement ties in closely with Dubai’s long-term goals under the D33 Economic Agenda. It is focused on making the city a global pioneer in smart financial systems and modern commerce. Also, the introduction of cryptocurrency payments is expected sometime next year. It give travellers greater freedom and ease when paying at Dubai’s leading airport retail stores.
In addition, the tripartite agreement aims to create a seamless digital ecosystem where travellers can use cryptocurrencies as a method of payment from the moment they book a flight to the time they shop in duty-free stores.
Eric Anziani, President and Chief Operating Officer of Crypto.com, stated,
“We’re delighted to complete the signing of this important MoU with Emirates Airline. As we continue to expand the everyday use case for crypto, integration with exceptional partners such as Emirates will bring real momentum to the digital asset industry and enable both companies to offer genuine innovative finance solutions for our customers.”
Moreover, Dubai has been actively fostering an environment conducive to blockchain and fintech adoption.
Crypto and CRO Adoption Grows
The partnership might bring real-world utility to digital currencies, with a particular focus on Crypto.com’s native token, CRO. Considering that millions of travellers pass through Dubai International Airport each year, introducing crypto payment options could increase both the number of transactions and the brand visibility for Crypto.com.
