Dubai’s crypto regulator, VARA, has announced the replacement of its CEO, Henson Orser, with global adviser Matthew White as the authority prepares for full-scale market operations in 2023. Orser, a former banker who led VARA in adopting a regulatory regime for the crypto space, will remain available in a consultative capacity. The move comes as the United Arab Emirates tightens its rules and imposes fines on unlicensed virtual asset service providers as part of efforts to be removed from the Financial Action Task Force’s “grey list”.
