Crypto Perpetual Futures May Soon Trade in U.S., Says CFTC Commissioner

Crypto perpetual futures could soon enter U.S. markets, according to Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Summer Mersinger.

“I think those can come to market now,” Mersinger said during TV interview. “We may see live trading very soon. It would be a win to bring that activity back onshore.”

Perpetual futures—also known as perpetual swaps—are derivatives that let traders bet on crypto prices without expiration dates.

$3.7 Trillion in Monthly Futures Volume

Crypto futures markets continue to grow rapidly. Last month, trading volume across all cryptocurrencies reached nearly $3.7 trillion, The Block reported.

This explosive growth shows strong demand for derivatives like perpetuals, even as U.S. regulators move slowly.

CFTC Commissioner to Lead Blockchain Association

Mersinger will leave the CFTC on May 30. She’s set to become CEO of the Blockchain Association, a major crypto lobbying group in Washington, D.C.

She has previously urged the CFTC and the SEC to collaborate on clear digital asset regulation. Her move could further unify the industry’s voice in shaping U.S. crypto policy.
