The full specifications for OSOM’s crypto-focused Solana Saga smartphone have been made public today by the firm. This comes in a few months after Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder and CEO of Solana, announced the release of Saga, an Android web3-focused smartphone, in front of an audience in New York City.
The new gadget has an IP68-rated casing, a 120Hz AMOLED screen, a 50MP primary camera, and up to 1TB of storage, among other notable features. Pre-orders for the phone are available for $100, which is a refundable deposit. Early in 2023, the phone will be made available.
The primary audience for OSOM’s Solana Saga is crypto enthusiasts. The Solana blockchain is strongly connected with its features and functionality. The Solana Smartphone Stack, an Android framework that enables developers to produce rich user experience for Solana-based apps, is included. Solana is one of the high throughput, fourth generation blockchains, offering stiff competition for Ethereum.
The Solana smartphone specifications
The Solana Saga has symmetrical bezels, a punch-hole cutout in the center, and a stainless steel case. It sports a dual camera setup with an LED flash, a fingerprint reader, and a ceramic back. A 6.67-inch Full-HD+ (1080×2400 pixel) AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate is included on the gadget. It offers dust and water protection with an IP68 rating. It weighs 247g and has a thickness of 8.4mm.
The Solana Saga has two cameras on the back: a 50MP primary camera (f/1.8, OIS) and a 12MP ultra-wide lens combined with an LED light. The phone has a 16MP (f/2.4) front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. A Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU, 512GB of internal memory, and 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM power the Solana Saga. It allows microSD card expansion for storage of up to 512GB.
The gadget has a 4,110mAh battery and runs Android 13. 5G, two SIMs, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, GPS, Type-c, and an NFC connector are among the connectivity possibilities.
The Solana Saga is available for pre-order for $100, which is refundable. Beginning next year, the phone will be supplied for an anticipated ultimate price of $1,000.
What this means to the ecosystem
Yakovenko emphasized several “wow” events the Solana ecosystem has witnessed over the previous few years, but notably in the last 12 months, in a hilarious and maybe awe-inspiring way. According to Nansen statistics Yakovenko presented, Solana has more than 21 million unique active monthly accounts.
With this launch, Solana may move beyond merely being a crypto-centric company to one that competes with Apple, Microsoft, and Android. The Solana ecosystem’s reach into popular audiences may be increased by concentrating on providing more web3 alternatives to mobile devices, which may encourage other crypto blockchains to follow suit.
