Crypto Executives Targeted in String of Violent Attacks, Security Demand Surges

A growing wave of violent crime has put the global crypto elite on edge, prompting a sharp increase in personal security arrangements as kidnapping and ransom threats mount — especially in France.

Private security firms across Europe report a surge in demand for bodyguards and risk management services from blockchain entrepreneurs, fund managers, and tech founders. Infinite Risks International, a Dutch-based firm, confirmed a rise in inquiries and long-term contracts from crypto clients concerned about targeted abductions.

The situation in France has become particularly alarming. Authorities have recorded at least three kidnapping attempts involving crypto figures in 2025 alone, triggering official warnings and emergency protocols tailored for high-risk individuals in the space.

Among the most chilling incidents was the abduction of Ledger co-founder David Balland earlier this year. He was held captive for several days before being rescued in a police operation. In another case, organized criminals reportedly mutilated a hostage — the father of a crypto entrepreneur — during a failed ransom plot in a Paris suburb.

The violence escalated further on May 13, when masked assailants attempted to abduct the daughter and grandson of Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat in broad daylight. The victims managed to fend off the attackers with the help of a bystander, narrowly escaping what could have been another high-profile kidnapping.

In response, French law enforcement has urged crypto professionals to avoid drawing attention to their wealth, advising against branded clothing or public displays of affluence. Emergency lines are also being streamlined for those identified as high-risk.

The French interior ministry has since convened with crypto industry leaders to discuss coordinated security upgrades and preventative measures, signaling just how seriously authorities are taking this new wave of financially motivated violence.
