The first tremor was registered to be 7.8 magnitude followed by a 7.6 magnitude shock in just a few hours. By the evening, central Turkey had an earthquake with a 6.0 reading on the Richter scale. After these three massive encounters, the nation was also hit by one on the morning of Feb 7th.
This recent natural disaster historically resembles the one which happened in northeast Turkey in 1939. In the past, there was over 30K loss of lives. The loss of lives now is counted to be 4300 and still, the search for many survivors is going on.

Countries around the globe are keeping the devastated nation and its citizens in their prayers and sending possible bits of help. The crypto community has also come forward to support Turkey. We are truly saddened by the earthquake in Turkey 🇹🇷. Our team has been working on a solution to help the people. There are quite a few details. I have had 4 meetings on it today. More details to come. Stay strong. 🙏

The help is in form of donations in fiat as well as crypto, sending aid kits, and much more. Bitmex is donating the “week’s Trading Competition to the Red Crescent”, the Red Cross Movement in Turkey. Prominent crypto personalities are showing their condolences and praying to provide the necessary strength to the victims.
The crypto community’s support of such natural and manmade disasters is not new. The world has witnessed such a scenario during the COVID-19 spread, as well as during the war between Ukraine and Russia. Donations and funding in crypto will remove the barriers that one has to undergo in fiat transactions.
