After Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk announced that the live stream of his proposed fight with Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (NASDAQ: META), will be available on social media platform X, some believe that viewers will be able to pay in crypto assets, particularly Dogecoin (DOGE), to watch the stream.
As it happens, the President of the American mixed martial arts (MMA) organization Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, said on August 10 that he had a meeting with Italian government officials to discuss hosting the Musk vs. Zuckerberg fight at the Roman Colosseum.
According to White’s earlier forecasts, “this would be the biggest fight ever in the history of the world,” and that it “would break all pay-per-view (PPV) records,” predicting it would generate three times more revenue than the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor in 2017, which raked in over $600 million.
Crypto payments
Recently, however, Musk said that his and Zuckerberg’s foundations, instead of White’s organization, would manage the fight, confirming that “everything in camera frame will be ancient Rome” and stressing that the live stream will be available on X and Meta.
Taking into account Musk’s interest in crypto assets and rumors of their implementation in X, as well as in Tesla’s page source code, it is not surprising that many in the community expect to be able to pay for the live stream in cryptos.
Considering Dogecoin is Musk’s favorite, it is also not far-fetched that the meme crypto would be one of the supported assets. Regardless of the accepted payment methods for the live stream of the match, Musk recently said that “all proceeds will go to charity for veterans.”
Roman Colosseum match
While the Tesla CEO did not specify in his recent X post whether the Colosseum was the decided venue, Musk said that he had spoken to the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano and that they both “agreed on an epic location.”
Considering that the Italian government earlier in June reportedly said that Musk and Zuckerberg were welcome to fight at the Roman Colosseum, chances are high that the location is indeed the legendary ancient amphitheater in the center of Rome, Italy.
Meanwhile, DOGE, the possible cryptocurrency for paying for the live stream of the match on X, was at press time trading at $0.076, indicating an increase of 0.52% on the day, advancing 2.29% across the previous week and gaining 15.84% over the last month.
