A wave of crypto adoption is sweeping through the French Riviera, where more than 80 businesses are now accepting cryptocurrency payments thanks to a new partnership between Binance Pay and French fintech firm Lyzi.
The rollout spans luxury destinations like Cannes, Monaco, Nice, and Antibes—marking a major step in integrating digital assets into the region’s tourism economy.
Through this system, customers can pay using stablecoins and other cryptocurrencies simply by scanning a QR code, with instant transaction settlement and no gas fees. Merchants, in turn, receive euro payouts immediately, making the system both user-friendly and risk-free for businesses.
Cannes has taken the lead in encouraging this shift. The city’s mayor, David Lisnard, publicly urged local merchants to embrace crypto as part of a broader Web3 initiative, warning that those who don’t adapt could be left behind.
Major hotels, beach clubs, luxury retailers, and even fitness centers have already onboarded. To encourage adoption, Binance Pay is offering a limited promotion: customers spending at least €20 in crypto receive €5 in EURI, a regulated euro-backed stablecoin.
This move follows a broader trend of crypto-enabled tourism, with countries like Bhutan and Thailand also rolling out digital asset payment systems to attract tech-savvy travelers.
