Binance Founder Changpeng Zhao on Hacking Advancements

Binance Founder Changpeng Zhao has highlighted four different ways in which North Korean hackers have advanced their approaches. Calling their ways creative, CZ said that the first way for them is to pose as a job candidate to get a foot in a company.

Another way, he added, is for them to pose as an employer and wrongly claim issues with a Zoom call. They then send a link to update the application, but it downloads a virus on an employee’s device.

Changpeng CZ Zhao said that the third way in which North Korean hackers attack is by posing as users. Attackers share a link to customer support requests. It redirects to a page that contains the virus, and it is downloaded on a device.

The fourth way, CZ said, is by paying or bribing employees to share data access. North Korean hackers also attempt to bribe vendors for the same. Such practices result in losses that often amount to millions of US Dollars. Binance Founder Changpeng Zhao highlighted this while sharing an X post of Security Alliance.

Attacks on Crypto Markets

According to a report by Chainalysis, approximately $2.17 billion worth of funds had been stolen by the middle of 2025. An attack reportedly by the DPRK on ByBit made up for around $1.5 billion. The attack has been termed as the largest single hack in the history of the crypto market.

The report further states that attackers were targeting individual users in an attempt to gain access to their respective wallets. Victims of crypto theft reportedly hailed from the US, Germany, Canada, Russia, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea, as of the middle of 2025. Suffice it to say, advancements in hacking techniques have kept the crypto market on the edge of its seats.

Measures to Prevent Crypto Thefts

Binance Founder Changpeng Zhao underlined two ways to prevent crypto thefts. The Former Binance CEO said that crypto platforms must train their employees not to download unknown or suspicious files. CZ added that crypto platforms must also screen their candidates carefully before onboarding them to the respective platform.

More ways to prevent crypto thefts, according to experts, are to do thorough research, understand the risk, and be skeptical of transactions that promise unexpectedly high returns. It is also important to stay updated and use only official resources for communication on a crypto platform.
