Authorities of Iran seized 9,404 crypto mining devices since March

Kambiz Nazerian, the head of the Tehran Electricity Distribution Company, announced on the following day the Iranian authorities had found and confiscated 9,404 illicit mining equipment for cryptocurrency in Tehran from the start of the Persian calendar year which began on March 21st. Local media said.

He said that mining equipment was discovered by inspectors from different areas of the Iranian capital city.

Iranian authorities have often reported the discovery of mining equipment for cryptocurrency that is illegal across the country in recent times. A large portion of these illegal cryptocurrency mining companies were situated in public spaces like mosques and schools that get electricity for free or at a substantial subsidy.

Use of cryptocurrencies will be expanded: Peymannpak.

Alireza Peymanpak, vice minister of Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade and the president of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), has revealed it was “the first official import order was successfully placed with cryptocurrency worth 10 million dollars.”He further stated: “By the end of September, the use of cryptocurrencies and smart contracts will be widespread in foreign trade with target countries.”

This week, Alireza Managhebi, the chairperson of Iran’s Importers Group and Representatives of Foreign Companies (Imports Association), stressed the need for a solid regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies to be created to allow them to be used as a payment method for imports.

In addition, the head of the central bank Iran (CBI), Ali Salehabadi, recently stated that the sale, purchase, and investment in cryptocurrencies are not allowed. The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence also issued an announcement in May stating that it had closed 9,219 bank accounts that belonged to 545 individuals because of unusual foreign cryptocurrency and currency transactions.
