- Bluesky app is now accepting users for private beta
- The app will soon launch – Dorsey
- Users will now have more control over what they see
As part of its decentralized response to Twitter, co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey of Twitter has revealed the most recent iteration of its social protocol and a brand-new Bluesky Social app.
The initiative’s announcement on Oct. 18 comes nearly three years after Dorsey made it public in December 2019, with the goal of giving social media users control over their data and allowing them to move it from one platform to another without permission.
New protocol has been renamed to AT Protocol
Account portability, algorithmic choice, interoperability, and performance will all be made possible by the new protocol, which has been renamed from ADX to Authenticated Transfer Protocol, or AT Protocol. It is referred to as a protocol for large-scale distributed social applications” in the press release.
The protocol also has improved performance and interoperability, as well as algorithmic choice, which gives users access to an open market of algorithms in a manner similar to how users can choose their indexers when interacting with Web search engines.
Bluesky explained that because of this, users of social media platforms that utilize the protocol will have greater control over what they see and who they reach, as opposed to having that aspect controlled and manipulated by a single company seeking engagement.
Bluesky’s content moderation model was previously described as taking place in aggregation algorithms, thresholds based on reputation, and end-user choice. No single company has the authority to decide what is published;Instead, businesses compete in a marketplace to select content for their audiences.
Dorsey also confirmed that a Twitter user could select no algorithms in response to a question.
However, other than the fact that it will launch soon and is currently allowing users to join a private waitlist to test the beta before making it available to the general public, not much else is known about the brand-new social app known as Bluesky Social.

Decentralized social platform is one answer to the centralized manipulation
Bluesky said that users who signed up for the beta reached a “temporary limit on mailing signups,” so it switched to mailing list providers to allow signups to resume.
The widespread criticism of the centralized manipulation of social media feeds, accounts, and data as being detrimental to social cohesion may be addressed by the decentralized social platform.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has previously criticized Twitter’s crackdown on “misinformation,” stating in April that Twitter should be “reluctant to delete things” and permanently ban accounts under his prospective leadership. He would try to promote free speech in accordance with the laws of each country.
