BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) has announced a breakthrough in asset tokenization with the launch of natively tokenised Money Market Fund (MMF) shares.
This initiative, developed in partnership with Allfunds Blockchain and BNP Paribas’ Securities Services, marks a significant advancement in the use of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) in traditional finance.
The project involves issuing a tokenised share class of an existing Luxembourg-based money market fund and executing cross-border transactions with a French counterparty. By operating entirely on-chain, this innovation eliminates batch-based processing and allows for near-instantaneous execution of subscriptions and redemptions upon receipt of net asset value (NAV).
This move builds on insights gained during the 2024 Eurosystem wholesale CBDC experiments and represents another step toward digitising asset management infrastructure. BNPP AM aims to improve transparency, operational efficiency, and settlement speed for institutional and, eventually, retail clients.
Importantly, blockchain integration can help democratize MMF access. While traditionally reserved for institutions, MMFs offer high liquidity and flexible access to capital — features that become even more powerful with blockchain’s real-time data capabilities and enhanced security.
With this initiative, BNPP AM strengthens its commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and reshaping how investors access and manage money market instruments.
