Ambient Network Deploys Blockchain Environmental Monitoring Sensors at LA’s Japanese Village Plaza

Los Angeles, California, September 20th, 2024, Chainwire

Commercial Grade Sensors To Provide Hyperlocal Data and Support ESG Efforts

Ambient, the largest decentralized network for environmental monitoring, announced today the successful deployment of blockchain-based air quality monitoring sensors in Los Angeles’ iconic Japanese Village Plaza (JVP). This deployment of commercial-grade air quality sensors promises to enhance the environment and well-being of both visitors and business owners in this bustling area, which sees over 5,000 visitors daily.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Japanese Village Plaza to validate Ambient’s environmental monitoring solution for retail spaces,” said Luca Franchi, CEO of Ambient. “This initiative underscores the growing importance of air quality awareness among consumers and enterprises and, more importantly, the advancement of incentive-based behavior to drive deployments, better insights, and create change for a healthier experience.”

Historically, air quality monitoring has been costly and primarily managed by government agencies or large corporations. Only a handful of locations in Los Angeles are being tracked for air quality, highlighting this gap. The World Health Organization reports over seven million premature deaths globally due to air pollution. Effective monitoring is crucial to address health risks like cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and to implement necessary improvements in air quality. By measuring environmental conditions throughout JVP, this project improves the quality of life for its visitors and also showcases the potential for broader applications in other urban centers.

Ambient and Parami Investors, a leading deployer of IoT and web3-enabled devices have committed to pre-provision, install, and monitor the indoor air quality at JVP. The current deployment covers 30 retailers with Kaiterra Sensedge Mini sensors, offering access to data such as Temperature, Humidity, Particulate Matter PM2.5, PM10, Volatile Organic Compounds TVOC, and Carbon Dioxide CO2. Over the coming months, Ambient and Parami Investors will collaborate with JVP to analyze the air quality data, identify value-added services and automation opportunities, and prepare a commercial solution with their technology partners for similar shopping venues around the United States and Europe.

“We are extremely excited to see our commercial air quality monitors being deployed in this project,” said Liam Bates, CEO and co-founder of Kaiterra. “As awareness of air quality continues to rise, we are committed to helping more building owners and commercial clients monitor and improve their air quality to provide a healthier environment for occupants.”

Ambient’s deployment model provides comprehensive, real-time hyperlocal data that can drive meaningful change and innovation. The company’s innovative approach leverages blockchain technology to record data streams on the Solana Blockchains and to offer unique token-based incentives for deploying air quality monitoring systems in densely populated areas.
