- A defense team member of the so-called BTC e-operator makes an appeal to the Head of the Russian Orthodoc Church.
- The following request is supposed to get involved in support of the BTC e-operator.
- The Russian Orthodox may be sentenced to more than 50 years in prison for the BTC e-operator’s role in the notorious crypto exchange.
The Russian Computer Expert or the so-called BTC e-operator, Alexander Vinnik, is getting support from one of his team members or the French lawyer, Frederic Belot, who has represented him in the Courts for years. The BTC e-operator is Russian crypto entrepreneur and is alleged for money laundering.
The French lawyer wrote to the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia with an appeal to assist his client and bring him back to his country. However, Russia already raised the demand from the U.S., France, and Greece to send Vinnik to his Country, but these countries did not pay attention to Russia’s calls.
But, the U.S. Department of Justice stated Vinnik “allegedly owned, operated, and administered BTC-e, a significant cybercrime and online money laundering entity that allowed its users to trade in bitcoin with high levels of anonymity and developed a customer base heavily reliant on criminal activity.”
The Savior’s Appeal for BTC E-Operator
Mr. Belot stated in the letter as “The Vinnik case for the United States is not a legal, but a political trial,”, as cited by the Russian Tass news Agency. Additionally, in the U.S., the BTC e-operator may face imprisonment of over 50 years.
He moreover notified and stressed as “Now the only thing that can save Alexander is his exchange, among other Russians, for American citizens imprisoned in Russia.”
While addressing to Kirill, the French Layer directed that his client is a “deeply believing Orthodox Christian” and also “believing that the truth will prevail in the end helped him endure loneliness, separation from his family, the death of his wife, and the monstrous injustice on the part of the authorities of several countries.”
The Potential Prisoner Swap
The attorney further pointed towards the prisoner’s swap as he cited the cases of Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan, and said that this is not the first time he is proposing the solution.
On September 5, 2022 Mr. Belot urged Moscow to take the first step for negotiations with the United States to include his client in a potential prisoner swap, as he wrote in the letter as “Now the only thing that can save Alexander is for the Russian Federation to enter into negotiations with the American authorities within the framework of the exchange of prisoners between the countries mentioned.”
The Lawyer further highlighted the poor health of his client as he spent time in solitary confinement in France and a hunger strike in Greece.
