Tether Holdings Limited has announced the launch of a fully open-source Bitcoin (BTC) mining operating system dubbed Tether Mining OS (MOS). Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, announced that the MOS is a next-generation complete operation platform that will democratize the Bitcoin mining industry.
Tether Mining OS Unveiled for Global Bitcoin Users
According to the announcement, the Tether Mining OS will help Bitcoin miners manage their fragmented systems for enhanced efficiency. Furthermore, the MOS will help Bitcoin miners to manage, monitor, and automate Bitcoin mining operations at scale.
According to Paolo, the MOS will bring together a long list of miners, containers, sensors, power meters, pools, and weather tools under one roof for seamless management. As such, the data from the individual systems in Bitcoin mining operations will be processed by MOS to give the investors an edge through analysis.
“By open-sourcing our mining software stack, we’re enabling new mining companies to enter the ecosystem, customize their operations, and compete on more equal footing, which ultimately strengthens the resilience of the Bitcoin network,” Paolo stated.
The MOS product was unveiled during the Plan ₿ Forum in El Salvador between January 29 and 30, 2026. In addition to the MOS, Tether announced the development of the Mining SDK, the framework on which MOS is built. As such, Bitcoin developers can build mining software without starting from scratch.
“Mining OS, MOS, is built to make Bitcoin mining infrastructure more open, modular, and accessible,” Paolo added.

The Tether MOS has key distinctive features that make it a next-generation software compared to the legacy fragmented system. Some of the key features, which will play a crucial role in the mainstream adoption of the MOS by the Bitcoin mining industry, include:

- The MOS enables a Peer-to-peer (P2P) encrypted networking layer.
- It supports a broad hardware compatibility.

The strategic launch of MOS will play a crucial role in strengthening the Bitcoin network in the future. With more small-scale mining operations expected to join through the Tether MOS system, the Bitcoin hashrate will grow exponentially, thus strengthening the core BTC network.
According to market data analysis from CoinWarz, Bitcoin’s mining hashrate hovered around 908.38 EH/s. The Bitcoin hashrate under MedgeOS will continue to grow exponentially, which will be bullish for the underlying coin in the long run.
