The Miami Bitcoin Conference is underway, and several sports stars have flooded the arena to share their love of bitcoin and talk about how the world’s number one digital currency by market cap is going to make serious waves in the payment world. Among the sports players to make their bitcoin support known was Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, legendary tennis player Serena Williams, and Odell Beckham Jr.
Aaron Rodgers and Other Sports Legends Talk BTC
Rodgers was particularly bullish about bitcoin, claiming it was a huge hedge against inflation and all the other disastrous decisions being made by the Federal Reserve. In an interview, he commented:
The Fed keeps printing trillions of dollars, and the best defense against inflation, I believe, is bitcoin. I got involved in the rabbit hole years ago and once you get to the other side, there’s no turning back. I’m excited to see how it all plays out, but I’m betting big on crypto continuing in the fashion that it’s been.
Beckham Jr. was also quick to claim that bitcoin had “almost become cool.” He is relatively new to the crypto space but is quite impressed with how BTC and other digital currencies carry themselves. He’s excited to see where things go, claiming:
I feel like it’s super relatable for all ages. I’m still learning every day.
He says his fellow players are consistently talking about bitcoin in the locker room. He also said that investors need to hop aboard the crypto train and “get with it” before it’s too late.
All three athletes also claimed that bitcoin was a great way for people who played college sports or who failed to complete college to become financially independent. Williams said there is a lot happening “in the cryptocurrency world,” and that it’s “all being led by bitcoin.” Rodgers went so far as to say that the National Football League (NFL) could potentially begin offering bitcoin and crypto salaries for players.
Football and Crypto Are Joined at the Hip
This is a trend we’ve witnessed for quite some time, and it was arguably started by Russell Okung of the Carolina Panthers in early 2021. At that time, Okung announced that he would be converting roughly half of his $13 million+ salary into bitcoin. In a statement, he commented:
Money is more than currency; it’s power. The way money is handled from creation to dissemination is part of that power. Getting paid in bitcoin is the first step of opting out of the corrupt, manipulated economy we all inhabit. Bitcoin fans are not only disrupting the status quo; we are reclaiming power that is rightly ours. PAY MEIN BITCOIN today becomes a reality thanks to Strike and the Panthers front office. This is the acknowledgement of a new way, a new path, and a new future.
