Veteran investor and Rich Dad Poor Dad author Robert Kiyosaki is eyeing this month’s market weakness as a potential windfall.
Far from fearing a drop, he’s betting that August — a month Bitcoin traders have long called “cursed” — could hand him a golden opportunity to expand his holdings.
According to Kiyosaki, the odds of a pullback are high enough that he’s already mapped out his next move: if Bitcoin slips below $90,000, he plans to double his current stash. He argues the real problem isn’t with the cryptocurrency itself, but with the mounting economic pressures in the United States — from a $37 trillion national debt to rising Treasury yields — that make alternatives like Bitcoin more attractive over time.
The so-called “August curse” didn’t appear out of thin air. Over the past decade, Bitcoin has struggled in this month more often than not, with average returns in the red. Even in years when the broader market was bullish, August has delivered sharp corrections. Analysts cite thin summer trading volumes, profit-taking, and macroeconomic uncertainty as recurring triggers for the seasonal slide.
CryptoRank data underscores the trend: in 2022 and 2023, the month saw double-digit percentage losses. Some years were even worse, with earlier cycles producing far steeper declines. While post-halving years have occasionally flipped the script, those have been the exception rather than the rule.
August 2025 opened with an immediate jolt. Weak U.S. labor numbers on the first day of the month rippled through risk assets, sending Bitcoin under $113,000 and wiping out hundreds of millions in leveraged positions. The sell-off reignited chatter about whether this August would once again live up to its rough reputation.
For Kiyosaki, the answer matters less than the opportunity it could present. He believes any significant dip will ultimately reward long-term holders — and if his price trigger is hit, he’s ready to act. In his view, the path to building wealth in volatile markets isn’t avoiding downturns, but using them to buy more of what you believe in.
