Software company MicroStrategy has advertised a position for a Bitcoin Lightning Network engineer, signaling the company’s continued move into the digital asset space.
The Virginia-based MicroStrategy, a provider of software solutions known for using large amounts of company cash to buy Bitcoin, is now looking for an engineer for Lightning Network-based products on a software-as-a-serve (SaaS) platform. The vacancy for the position was posted on the company’s website earlier this week and reads:
As a Bitcoin Lightning Software Engineer at MicroStrategy, you will build a Lightning Network-based SaaS platform, providing enterprises with innovative solutions to cyber-security challenges and enabling new eCommerce use cases.
The Lightning Network is a layer 2 scaling system for Bitcoin that is designed to increase the speed of sending and receiving payments on the blockchain network. According to the vacancy, the applicant should have “experience building software solutions leveraging Bitcoin Blockchain and Lightning Network, or other Decentralized Finance (DeFi) technologies.” The vacancy description added that contribution to the development of Bitcoin Core, a Lightning implementation Lightning Network Daemon (LND), and other large open-source cryptocurrency projects would be highly advantageous.
Since deploying its Bitcoin strategy in 2020, MicroStrategy has become one of the largest holders of the currency having bought 130,000 coins, making it the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin. The firm has recently pushed toward the Lightning Network. Michael Sayler, the former CEO of MicroStrategy, said earlier this month at a conference that the company’s developers are working on solutions that would allow a large number of people onto the Lightning Network. Sayler described Lightning as “the most important thing going on in the world of technology,” and added that the firm is looking for solutions that would enable businesses to “roll out Lightning to a hundred thousand employees every day.” The former CEO said on a previous occasion that MicroStrategy was “interested in cyberspace and continue to spread Bitcoin. We’re going to use our enterprise software skills to do that.”
