Michael Saylor’s 96 seconds that changed everything for Bitcoin and crypto

Bitcoin proponent Michael Saylor commented on a 96 second clip from a Janet Yellen interview on CNBC. He said that this part of the interview was “emblematic”, and that it was what the last few years had led up to.

On Friday’s Crypto Banter YouTube show Saylor was in good company, with Mark Yuzko, Anthony Scaramucci, and presenter Ran Neuner. A clip was played on the show that featured the CNBC interview, where it appeared that Janet Yellen, usually one of the most strident critics of Bitcoin and crypto, was softening considerably towards the private digital assets sector.

MicroStrategy CEO Saylor was the first to comment on the clip and he summed it up as containing five iconic statements that highlighted the extent to just how far Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies had come.

He first referred to Andrew Ross Sorkin, the CNBC presenter, who commented that “I can’t get through an interview without talking about this” (referring to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency). This is quite poignant, given that 2 or 3 years ago this certainly wouldn’t have been the case on a mainstream news channel.

Sorkin made another very emblematic remark when he referred to El Salvador being the first nation state to accept bitcoin as a payments technology and legal tender in the country.

Saylor spoke of how Treasury Secretary Yellen had quoted the recent fact, which came to light in the Biden executive order, that as many as 1 in 4 Americans held cryptocurrencies.

He also cited how Yellen had said “We got to regulate it responsibly”, which Saylor thought every leader of a financial agency would be bound to say.

The last iconic statement, according to Saylor, was when Yellen said “We’re going to create an environment where innovation can continue”. On this last remark, Saylor said:

In essence, it’s the White House, the most powerful government in the world, embracing Bitcoin, and also endorsing the crypto reformation – we’re really living through a reformation right now, and you’re watching history being made right in front of your eyes. One day people will look back at this 30 years from now and say, “this is when the entire inversion of the monetary order took place”.
