Michael Saylor Says New SEC Chair Paul Atkins ‘Will Be Good for Bitcoin

Michael Saylor has voiced strong support for newly appointed U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Paul Atkins, calling him a “positive force” for Bitcoin and digital assets.

The statement comes amid a broader regulatory shift under President Donald Trump’s second administration.

In a tweet shared with his millions of followers, Saylor posted a video clip of Trump and Atkins during the swearing-in ceremony at the White House, officiated by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The clip features Atkins outlining his vision for crypto regulation, emphasizing a “rational, coherent, and principled approach” to digital asset oversight.

“SEC Chairman Paul Atkins will be good for Bitcoin,” Saylor wrote in his caption.

A Known Crypto Advocate

Paul Atkins, who previously served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008, has been long associated with pro-crypto initiatives. In 2017, he became co-chair of the Token Alliance, a prominent advocacy group lobbying for favorable crypto regulation. He also served as an advisor to FTX, the now-defunct crypto exchange that collapsed in 2022.

Despite the controversial FTX connection, Atkins has retained strong support in crypto and libertarian circles, largely due to his market-friendly stance and efforts to promote innovation over restriction.

Why Saylor Supports Atkins

Saylor, one of Bitcoin’s most vocal institutional backers, has frequently criticized regulatory ambiguity in the U.S., calling for clearer frameworks to support institutional adoption. His endorsement of Atkins signals confidence that the new SEC leadership will help unlock greater Bitcoin legitimacy and investment flows, especially as Bitcoin ETFs gain mainstream traction.

A Turning Point for U.S. Crypto Policy?

Atkins’ appointment is widely seen as part of Trump’s pro-crypto pivot, as the administration pushes for the U.S. to become a global leader in digital assets. His remarks about building a “firm regulatory foundation” may hint at long-awaited reforms, possibly streamlining the way crypto tokens are classified and regulated.

Industry leaders hope this could bring an end to the confusion surrounding securities laws and allow crypto companies to operate with greater legal clarity.
