Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has accumulated 5,000 BTC, reaching 50% of its goal to acquire 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.
The company reached this milestone on April 24 after adding 145 BTC to its reserves, spending approximately 1.9 billion yen (around $13.4 million).
According to analytics on its website, Metaplanet has invested approximately $428.1 million in Bitcoin to date. This puts its average purchase price at around $85,621 per coin.
With current market prices of over $90,000, the firm’s holdings are worth more than $460 million.
Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating that reaching 50% of the target reflects the firm’s dedication to becoming a global leader in Bitcoin holdings.
In a separate X post, Gerovich stated:
“In terms of Bitcoin holding growth rate, we are the fastest in the world, and in absolute volume, we are expanding at a pace second only to Strategy Corp. We aim to achieve our target of 10,000 BTC by the end of the year.”
Meanwhile, Metaplanet could hit this 10,000 BTC goal as early as September if its current buying trend continues. This year, the firm has acquired over 1,000 BTC monthly since its aggressive accumulation spree began in February.
