Japanese tech firm Metaplanet Inc. has announced the issuance of its 15th Series of Ordinary Bonds, totaling $15 million USD.
According to an official filing, the company will allocate the entire proceeds from the bond sale to purchasing additional Bitcoin, reinforcing its strategy to deepen its exposure to the leading cryptocurrency.
The bonds, which bear zero interest, were issued exclusively to EVO FUND and have a face value of $375,000 each. Bondholders will receive USD 1 for every USD 1 invested upon maturity on November 12, 2025, making it a straightforward principal repayment without yield. Early redemption is also allowed at full face value upon request.
Notably, the issuance is unsecured and unguaranteed, with no collateral backing. The funds raised are expected to be used in line with Metaplanet’s previously stated intent to expand its Bitcoin holdings. This comes as part of a broader financing initiative tied to the company’s stock acquisition rights program.
While the move adds to Metaplanet’s growing list of crypto-related financial strategies, the company stated the impact on its consolidated financial results for FY2025 will be minimal. If any material changes occur, the company has committed to providing timely updates.
The announcement underscores Metaplanet’s ongoing alignment with the Bitcoin investment model pioneered by companies like MicroStrategy, using corporate debt to increase long-term BTC reserves.
As institutional appetite for digital assets continues to build, Metaplanet’s zero-interest bond issuance highlights a growing trend: leveraging low-cost capital to accumulate what some firms consider a superior store of value.
