 
 
Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet has acquired an additional 463 BTC, expanding its treasury as part of its long-term commitment to buy up the world’s largest cryptocurrency ahead of a key target next year.
Metaplanet started acquiring Bitcoin in April 2024 and has since leaned heavily into a treasury strategy modeled after public companies like Strategy.
Metaplanet announced Monday that it bought the latest batch at an average price of $115,895 per Bitcoin, pushing total stash to 17,595 BTC. The Tokyo-listed investment company has paid some $1.78 billion for its total Bitcoin position at an average price of $101,422.
The latest Bitcoin acquisition comes on the heels of the company’s Friday filing to raise up to $3.7 billion by issuing new perpetual preferred shares to support its aggressive Bitcoin buying strategy. This financial instrument has been used aggressively by Michael Saylor’s Strategy to boost its Bitcoin stack above 628,700 BTC.
“Our goal is to have multiple tools to raise capital for buying Bitcoin,” Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich wrote in a Sunday post on X. “On a Bitcoin standard, the mission is to continuously grow Bitcoin per share. Issuing perpetual preferreds is a highly accretive tool designed to maximize long-term shareholder value.”
 
With a Bitcoin stockpile worth over $2 billion, Metaplanet remains the world’s seventh-largest Bitcoin corporate holder, trailing behind large crypto firms, such as Strategy, MARA Holdings, XXI, Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company, Riot, and Trump Media, data from Bitcointreasuries shows.
The pace with which Metaplanet has accumulated Bitcoin this year, despite recent macro headwinds, coincides with the disclosure of its updated “555 Million Plan,” which replaced its earlier 21,000 BTC target for 2026 with new goals of 100,000 BTC by year-end and 210,000 by 2027.
The Simon Gerovich-led firm is now roughly 8.4% of the way toward achieving the 210,000 goal.
