- Tether and Bitfinex contributed funds to Hypercore to launch Holepunch.
- Keet made its public premiere today in alpha version.
Tether, the company behind the world’s most popular stablecoin USDT, cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex, and open-source project Hypercore have joined forces to establish Keet, a peer-to-peer (P2P) messaging network.
Bitfinex has been cryptically tweeting about a launch for the last several days. An encrypted app was released by the trio mentioned above earlier today. Audio and video conversations, as well as text and file exchange, are all possible with this application. All of this will take place on a peer-to-peer basis.
First of its Kind in Crypto Sector
Tether and Bitfinex contributed funds to Hypercore to launch Holepunch. In order to facilitate the development of peer-to-peer apps, Holepunch was launched, and Keet is apparently a result of the same.
Keet made its public premiere today in alpha version. App users may use the app now through the internet, but the mobile version won’t be available until November 2022. There are many reasons for this, the most important of which being that Holepunch is still to be released as open source code, and as such, the project remains a closed source protocol. The crew is said to have been working on the project for the last three years.
The CTO of Bitfinex and Tether, Paolo Ardoino, stated:
“Bitcoin and Tether payments are add-on features to provide payment rails/options for people using applications built on top of Holepunch or plan to build/offer services through the Holepunch network.”
There are plans to include Bitcoin into the platform by Tether, Hypercore, and Bitfinex. Users will be able to make Bitcoin payments as a result of this. Streaming BTC to content providers will also be permitted. Sending Lightning payments will be a standout feature.
