Jordan Peterson asks for help to be onboarded on Bitcoin Lightning Network

Renowned Canadian psychologist and cultural critic Jordan Peterson has expressed his interest in joining the Bitcoin (BTC) Lightning Network.

The challenge came from a Twitter user known as Joe Nakamoto on February 14, who urged Peterson to share a Bitcoin lightning address instead of using the crowdfunding platform GoFundMe.

This is after Pererson shared a GoFundMe page asking for donations to help a victim who had suffered losses due to fire. In this case, Nakamoto asked Peterson to set up a lightning address as it would open up donations globally as well as those without debit or credit cards. 

Peterson noted that he had limited knowledge of setting up an address and asked to be ‘enlightened.’

Indeed, a few Twitter users also volunteered to help Peterson set up the address. The Canadian’s openness to embrace the Bitcoin Lighting Network aligns with his past support for the maiden cryptocurrency. Notably, with soaring inflation, Peterson has previously viewed Bitcoin as the hope of the future. 

His support for the cryptocurrency is based on the asset’s lack of ‘distortions or interference’. According to the psychologist, cryptocurrencies enable a free market for all.

Bitcoin Lightning Network reaches record high 

It is worth noting that the Bitcoin Lightning Network is a second-layer solution for the Bitcoin blockchain that enables near-instant transactions with low fees. It is often viewed as improving Bitcoin’s scalability and increasing its adoption.

Notably, as of February 15, the network reached an all-time high in capacity or the amount of Bitcoin locked in payment channels. The new record high saw the network grow over 60% since the beginning of 2022. At the moment, the capacity stands at 5.53 BTC.

Overall, the Lightning Network’s capacity to address the challenges observed on the Bitcoin mainnet has made it a compelling choice for individuals and corporations alike. 

For instance, the rollout of Bitcoin payments in El Salvador was facilitated by Strike, a payment service that operates on the Lightning Network. Another case is Twitter’s adoption of the Lightning Network to enable Bitcoin tips on its platform.
