Hong Kong Recognizes BTC and ETH for Investment Visa

According to the latest report, Hong Kong’s local authority has officially confirmed that foreigners can show their crypto holdings, such as Bitcoin and Ether, as proof of funds for its investment visa program, the New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme visa. The news is confirmed by a government spokesperson in an interview with a prominent media outlet.

Hong Kong’s New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme Incorporates Crypto Assets

Under the newly introduced Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (CIES), investment visa applicants can now disclose BTC and ETH as part of their net worth assessment. To meet the criteria and qualify, applicants must disclose a total net worth of at least HK$30 million.

The inclusion of crypto in the visa program puts BTC and ETH alongside traditional assets such as stocks, bonds, and real estate in the assessment of an applicant’s financial standing.

The spokesperson stated that while the program does not impose specific asset-type requirements, yet, all submitted wealth declarations will go through a verification process. To execute this process, a chartered public accountant must validate and sign off on an evaluation report to meet the regulatory standards.

This move shows a global trend toward recognizing cryptocurrencies as legitimate financial instruments following the remarkable victory of Donald Trump in the presidential race.
