BlackRock Inc., on May 15, reached a milestone with its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) holding 627,985.7 BTC, making it the largest Bitcoin spot ETF globally, according to official data.

This achievement underscores Bitcoin’s increased role in mainstream finance through institutional investment vehicles. Key players, including CEO Larry Fink, remain publicly reserved in recent days.

BlackRock’s IBIT surpassed Grayscale’s holdings, marking a pivotal shift. BlackRock now controls significant Bitcoin assets, boasting a market cap of $65.35 billion. The ETF expansion emphasizes institutional confidence.

Institutional and retail interest is surging, evidenced by sustained inflows. The ETF’s large holdings suggest Bitcoin’s price stability and its viability as a financial instrument alongside traditional assets. Eric Balchunas, Senior ETF Analyst at Bloomberg, notes:

“Seeing more cash flowing into the market under these circumstances is a very positive indicator for the long term, and it reinforces our belief that BTC ETFs will achieve three times the assets under management of gold’s in the next 3-5 years.”
