Morgan Stanley’s ‘GBTC’ Share Purchase
Morgan Stanley is an American Financial and Investment firm. It initiated its buying in 2019, but noted the massive buying in the bullish market of the previous year. Many firms recently sold their GBTC funds with the loss. The funds managed by Morgan Stanley are down with Morgan Stanley Insight Fund Class A down more than 50%.
In the previous year, when the BTC moved to parabolic highs and the funds that are owned by Morgan Stanley initiated the purchasing of the shares of Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) with relatively high volumes. At a point, the firm owned the GBTC shares as much as 13M. But it currently holds ~11M GBTC shares with at least 33% of loss.
The fund began with 1,734,013 shares and sold 332,627 in the beginning of the bearish phase of the market. In the second quarter, the funds sold 183,457 shares at a loss with 1,217,929 GBTC shares.
Morgan Stanley’s ‘MicroStrategy’ Share Purchase
In 2020, the firm bought more than 10%of shares of MicroStrategy, which is a Business Intelligence American Firm. At the end of 2020 the shares were 845,786 that are owned by Morgan Stanley. In 2021, the firm sold the majority of these shares because of its price hike along with the Bitcoin.
Morgan Stanley currently owns only a small amount of MicroStrategy shares along with the Morgan Stanley Insight Fund owning up to 41,508 shares, and the Morgan Stanley Institutional Fund Trust owning 25,469.
It also bought up to $9,702,000 in MicroStrategy bonds with a coupon of 6.125%. This bond will mature on June 15, 2028. Its MSTR bonds value is down from its principal and at present valued at a total of $8,392,675.
The firm previously made many positive comments over crypto and Bitcoin. Additionally, some of the firm managers also describe digital assets as “a likely permanent investment category” and “a viable asset class” with potential growth.
