The second day of the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami was as colorful as we’ve come to expect, with PayPal co-founder and venture capitalist Peter Thiel revealing his Bitcoin (BTC) “enemies list” and Mexico’s third-richest man, Ricardo Salinas, revealing he has 60 percent of his portfolio in Bitcoin.
The Bitcoin 2022 conference was fun with fresh developments, but Peter Thiel stole the show by tossing $100 bills into the audience and referring to Warren Buffet as a “sociopathic grandpa.”
Pro-bitcoin speech
Thiel, one of the conference’s speakers, ascended the main Nakamoto stage in the early afternoon and began his lecture in style by tossing a $100 bill into the audience in an attempt to highlight the difference between crypto and government-backed fiat cash.
“I thought you guys were supposed to be Bitcoin maximalists,” Thiel remarked as the crowd panicked in crypto market crises.
He then delivered a pro-Bitcoin speech in which he projected that Bitcoin’s price would rise 100-fold from its current level and that traditional financial markets would finally collapse.

“The central banks are insolvent. We have reached the end of the fiat money era”
Thiel also revealed his list of foes, with famed Berkshire Hathaway billionaire Warren Buffett at the top, naming him “Enemy No. 1.” Thiel referred to Buffett as a “sociopathic grandfather,” implying that he disagreed with the Berkshire Hathaway CEO’s Bitcoin criticism.
Thiel’s list also featured JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon and Blackrock CEO Larry Fink, who both blasted the group of billionaires for waging a “gerontocracy” – a society dominated by the elderly — against Bitcoin.
Later in the day, Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas used his 15-minute main stage appearance to take aim at bonds and proclaim that he now has 60% of his entire liquid investment portfolio in Bitcoin, up from 10% in December 2020.
Salinas, whose net worth is reported to be $12.8 billion, was an early Bitcoin investor. In an interview, Salinas revealed that he bought his first Bitcoin in 2013 when the average price was around $200 per coin.
State of emergency
On Thursday, El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele was set to speak second-to-last. However, the Bitcoin Conference announced his departure on Twitter on Thursday, stating “unforeseen circumstances.” The country is now in a state of emergency owing to gang violence.
Bitcoin 2022 conference-day three will include more high-profile speakers, including a keynote speech by legendary investor Mike Novogratz, a fireside chat with acclaimed psychologist Jordan Peterson, and a presentation by Thiel Capital director Eric Weinstein.
