Austin Promotes Crypto Adoption; III Forks Restaurant Start Accepting Payments In Bitcoin

Back in April, Austin steakhouse III Forks declared that it would be going into the blockchain space by accepting Bitcoin via BitPay on the Bitcoin Lightning Network.

III Forks, which CRO, Inc. owns, is the first restaurant in the company to begin accepting Bitcoin. Guests are now able to inform their server at checkout that they would like to pay their bill in Bitcoin, whereby the III Forks team will then present them with a BitPay invoice QR code for customers to scan tableside.

Owned by CRO, Inc, III Forks is the first restaurant in the company to start accepting Bitcoin. Guests can now tell that they would like to pay the bill in Bitcoin to their server at checkout, whereby the III Forks team will move the BitPay invoice QR code for customers to scan tableside.

President of CRO, Inc.’s Steakhouse Division, Curtis Osmond, in an interview, said that Bitcoin became a frequent subject of talk among its customers and as a result restaurants adopted Bitcoin as a new payment method.

Osmond applauded the ability of the Lightning network to enable any business, including III Forks, to accept dollars, regardless of the currency. He further notes that it does so for a fragment of the standard credit card fees. He then advises using a “reputable platform, with a well-designed, simple interface.”

Speaking on Texas and the city of Austin, Osmond says that Austin’s “storied history” of heading the developments in tech won’t push the city to adopt the cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin.

The Austin City Council gave the green light to a measure that will release a study on the city embracing Bitcoin along with other cryptocurrencies for city taxes, penalties, and fees, in late March.

Local ATX DAO was also happy with the move of the council to go ahead with its decision to enhance the city’s infrastructure.

But, other groups, such as the Austin Justice Coalition, said that it is something to worry about if it becomes the priority among other city priorities that talk about Bitcoin mining. The electricity consumption of Bitcoin is over 121 terawatt-hours a year, per the researchers.

Future Plans Of III Forks

In addition, Osmond revealed that CRO, Inc. intends to carry on with evaluating BitPay’s utilization for other restaurants across the company. He then goes on to say that they are continuously searching for creative ways to enhance the dining experience.

He believes that forward-thinking possess a chance to offer an unprecedented level of hospitality and enjoyment as several new technologies are on the horizon.
