A Bitcoin address untouched since early 2011 came back to life Thursday, transferring nearly $468 million worth of BTC in a rare and attention-grabbing move.
The legacy wallet, which originally received 3,962 BTC when prices hovered around $0.37, initiated a small test transaction before shifting its entire balance to a new address.
Blockchain data from Arkham and BitInfoCharts shows the stash was acquired in January 2011—worth just $1,453 at the time—and had remained dormant until this sudden activity. The recipient wallet is identified as “bc1qc…udryz.”
The event adds to a series of recent whale movements. Earlier this week, a separate long-inactive wallet moved over 10,600 BTC, while another transferred 40,000+ coins to Galaxy Digital custody. As Bitcoin trades near all-time highs, speculation is mounting over whether these veteran holders are preparing to liquidate or reposition assets.
Some observers, including Coinbase’s Conor Grogan, believe these wallets may belong to early miners from Bitcoin’s Satoshi-era, when block rewards were 50 BTC and mining competition was minimal. That has led to renewed curiosity over whether the original Bitcoin creator could be connected to any of the reactivated accounts.
Bitcoin was trading around $118,500 at the time of the transaction, amid a relatively quiet market session.
