The sighting of a Bundesliga star at FC Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper headquarters has sparked rumors that the player could be signed by the Catalans this summer.
Barca have been linked to Bayern Munich phenomenon Joshua Kimmich in recent weeks, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that the Germany international would force his exit from the Allianz Arena in order to don Blaugrana.
With Kimmich saying this week that he will honor his contract and plans to do “big things” in its remaining two years, Xavi Hernandez now insists that Barca go for Martin Zubimendi to replace outgoing captain Sergio Busquets in the pivot position according to MD.
This doesn’t mean that Barca won’t pursue other pearls from the German top flight, however, and there have previously been reports that one of their top targets is Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz.
On Saturday, however, it is a clip of Wirtz’s teammate Edmond Tapsoba taking a walk around the Ciutat Esportiva – uploaded to Twitter by Soc Blaugrana – that has triggered buzz the Blaugrana might look to sign the defender this summer.
Burkina Faso-born Tapsoba has previously been linked to Premier
PINC
As he is represented by Barca sporting director Deco, however, a transfer should be easy to arrange with the Portuguese club legend having already offered his client to president Joan Laporta and his board in the past.
Possibly signing Tapsoba would come after Barca reportedly closed the €5 million ($5.3 million) transfer of Mikayil Faye according to Fabrizio Romano last weekend.
With three years left to run on his Leverkusen contract, however, Tapsoba would cost far more than the 18-year-old Senegalese center back and is rated at €30 million ($33 million) by Transfermarkt.
At the same time Barca appear to be signing new defenders, they may also look to sell Eric Garcia and possibly Jules Kounde if anyone can meet his reported €80 million ($87 million) asking price.
In general, Laporta and Co need to offload players so that they can bring in fresh faces and also return to the 1:1 rule under Financial Fair Play limits.
