‘Never Have I Ever’ Dethroned In Netflix’s Top 10 List By A New Show

The final season of Never Have I Ever had its time in the sun, and now it’s off the #1 spot on Netflix as the show wraps up and everyone moves on. It was a great series! I liked it a lot, and thankfully it’s one that was able to end on its own terms rather than be killed off prematurely like uh, many, many other series starring young women on Netflix.

Replacing it is the return of Black Mirror for season 6, which brings another five episodes, with a few of them the length of full movies, 80 minutes and 74 minutes for episodes 3 and 5. This season stars big names like Salma Hayek, Aaron Paul, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara and Zazie Beetz. But some lesser known actors also get to shine.

It has been an absurdly long time since Black Mirror season 5. The show picked up its pace after moving from Channel 4 to Netflix, but it has been literally four years since season 5 arrived in 2019. While sure, some of that is COVID delays, man, that is a long time, and I’m not shocked to see the series debut at #1 as a result. Season 6 currently has 73% score on Rotten Tomatoes, not that much lower than earlier seasons, but better than at least season 5’s 67%. Audience scores aren’t amazing but it’s still early.

Elsewhere on the list we have a brand new debut at #2 as well, The Surrogacy, a Mexican drama about…a surrogacy that turns into a thriller. I guess people are digging it, and we have seen a lot of Spanish-language series doing well on Netflix as of late.

The rest of the list are things that have been on there a while, Manifest, SWAT, All American, FUBAR, Arnold. Bloodhounds is an interesting case, a Korean boxing movie that’s done pretty well on the list. Eight full episodes that are all essentially an hour long or more. A bit of an investment.

We will see how long Black Mirror stays on top. It’s an A-list cast and if they keep putting Salma Hayek in the thumbnail, I predict it will do well for a while. I’ll watch soon, but an 80 minute episode certainly is something you have to commit to, to be sure.
