Ariana Grande Has Been Wicked-ly Busy, But She Could Still Earn Grammy Love This Year

Ariana Grande has been busy for quite some time now filming both installments of the highly anticipated Wicked movie. The first half of the musical is scheduled to hit theaters in November 2024, so they’re working on finishing them now. With her focus on the films, the singer hasn’t released much new music recently. However, she does have a single out that may help her secure another Grammy nomination, if not another golden trophy.

Grande’s single “Die For You” has the potential to compete in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category as it is a collaboration with The Weeknd. The song was a pleasant surprise for both artists as it is actually from a years-old album by the Canadian pop/R&B musician. After gaining traction on TikTok, “Die For You” was reissued as a single and quickly gained momentum.

The Weeknd enlisted the vocal prowess of his friend Grande to breathe new life into the track, propelling it to the top spot on the prestigious Hot 100 chart. This achievement not only brought both artists back to the summit but also added to their growing collection of No. 1 hits. While chart positions and sales are not supposed to sway Grammy voters, a tune that reaches the pinnacle of the charts is undoubtedly given serious consideration by members of the Recording Academy.

The challenge here lies in Grande submitting “Die For You” for Grammy consideration. The Weeknd has previously pledged to distance himself from the Grammy Awards after his single “Blinding Lights” and its accompanying album were snubbed, so now needs to rely on other artists submitting collaborations that featured him to secure nominations and wins. Despite this self-imposed hurdle, The Weeknd has gone on to win awards and receive nominations since he stopped submitting on his own, thanks to the efforts of other artists he’s worked with.

If “Die For You” is indeed nominated, it will mark the first time The Weeknd and Grande are recognized together at the Grammy Awards. This is somewhat surprising considering that the track is their fourth successful collaboration. Previous hits such as “Love Me Harder” and “Save Your Tears” never received Grammy nominations.

Grande’s Grammy history includes a win in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category in 2021 for her collaboration with Lady Gaga, “Rain on Me.” It was Gaga’s second victory in the field and Grande’s first. Additionally, it marked Grande’s third nomination in that category, having been previously nominated for “Bang Bang” (with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj) and “Boyfriend” (with Social House). For his part hand, The Weeknd has never been nominated for this specific category, although he has been a contender for pop Grammys in the past.

The official announcement of Grammy nominations is expected later in 2023, with the eligibility period closing on September 15, 2023. It remains to be seen whether Grande will submit “Die For You” for consideration, which would pave the way for potential Grammy recognition for the collaborative effort between her and The Weeknd.
