Disney Plus’s ‘Ahsoka’ Finally Has A Release Date

We knew it was coming this year, but now we know exactly when Ahsoka is returning to Disney Plus screens, now in her own series.

We knew it was August, but now the official release date of Ahsoka has been revealed, August 23, where the series will be airing on Wednesdays. Here’s the official synopsis:

“Set after the fall of the Empire, ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”

It’s a return to Dave Filoni’s beloved Clone Wars/Rebels-era character, now post-original trilogy in the Mandalorian timeline. Older Ahsoka is played by Rosario Dawson, and the rest of the Rebels cast is showing up as well in live action. Elizabeth Winstead as Hera, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine and the most Ezra Bridger-looking dude I’ve ever seen in my life, Eman Efandi, as Ezra Bridger. One unique aspect of the series is that Grand Admiral Thrawn’s voice actor, Lars Mikkelsen (whose brother Mads was in Rogue One) will return to play the part in live action. It is unknown if Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian may show up in cameo form at any point, but that’s usually how these shows have been working.

The grand list of active Star Wars shows is growing. While The Book of Boba Fett and Obi Wan aren’t coming back, Mando season 3 is eventually, as is Andor season 2. The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew are on the way as well, but the Writers Strike may cause delays with all of this. But Ahsoka is already pretty much finished, hence the non-delayed release date here. The season will be eight episodes long, and I’m not quite sure if it’s meant to be an ongoing series or miniseries. The plan is for Dave Filoni to direct a giant, Avengers-like Star Wars movie (Heir to the Empire?) combining all these characters from this era, including this whole cast, Mando and Grogu, and maybe more.

Given that Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian run has gone quite well, it’s easy to assume that Ahsoka is probably going to be good, even of The Book of Boba Fett was not and Obi-Wan was…just okay. Filoni being heavily involved seems like it will be hard to mess things up here, and I hope it does the old animated series proud.

So, just over two months until Ahsoka, and only Marvel content before then (Secret Invasion). Stay tuned.
