Lionel Messi FC Barcelona Return Now Possible: Reports

FC Barcelona’s viability plan has finally received the green light from La Liga, making it now possible for Lionel Messi to return to the club according to Relevo.

Messi is a free agent on June 30 and announced his departure from current club Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday ahead of the Ligue 1 giants releasing an official statement confirming the development.

After Messi played his final game at the Parc des Princes that evening, a shock 3-2 loss to Clermont Foot where he was booed for missing a chance from close distance, Relevo reported that a Saudi delegation had traveled to the French capital to try and close his signature for Al-Hilal.

Amid Footmercato reporting that the Messi camp had accepted a two-year €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion) proposal for him to continue his career in the Middle East, Relevo added that former club FC Barcelona was still the Argentine’s preferred destination.

The Catalans experiencing delays in getting the green light from La Liga, on a viability plan that convinces the league they can pull off the coup economically, threatened to derail a potential return to Catalonia altogether.

Now though, according to Relevo, La Liga have given the thumbs up to the plan which means a second stint at his boyhood club is now possible for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

As indicated by Barca head coach Xavi Hernandez, Messi is expected to make a decision on his future this week.

Sources at Al-Hilal told SPORT they wanted to announce Messi’s arrival on June 6, but Messi might not take the big money in Saudi Arabia which would put him in line to top Forbes’ list of the World’s Highest-Paid Athletes.

Messi finished second to generational rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the most recent edition of the list, which was thanks to the Portugese veteran’s switch to Al-Hilal’s bitter rivals Al-Nassr.

Messi is expected to earn €25 million ($27.5 million) a season in Barcelona on a two-year contract according to SPORT.

Were he to already put pen to paper for the Blaugrana, Messi could join Xavi’s squad on their planned pre-season tour of the United States which also promises a meeting with Real Madrid in El Clasico.
