Jimin Joins J-Hope, Suga And Psy With His First Rap Hit In America

Jimin’s latest single “Angel Pt. 1” makes a significant impact on the Billboard charts this week. The track’s success has propelled Jimin to rankings he has never appeared on before, further solidifying his position as a talented artist both on his own and as a member of BTS.

Debuting on this week’s Hot Rap Songs chart at No. 11, “Angel Pt. 1” narrowly missed out on securing a historic top 10 position for Jimin. However, he is not alone in his success, as the song also credits Kodak Black, NLE Choppa, Jvke, and Muni Long.

This single, produced for the Furious X soundtrack, marks Jimin’s first appearance on the Hot Rap Songs chart. By achieving this feat, he becomes part of a select group of South Korean musicians who have reached this ranking, which rarely sees foreign artists find space.

The first South Korean artist to break onto the Hot Rap Songs chart was Psy, with his groundbreaking hit “Gangnam Style” in 2012. The global smash climbed to No. 1 and remains the only K-pop-leaning tune to reach the summit of this chart.

Psy also holds another record among his fellow countrymen on the Hot Rap Songs chart, as he claims the most placements. Alongside “Gangnam Style,” he has sent two other tracks, “Gentleman” and “Hangover” featuring Snoop Dogg, to the ranking.

After a seven-year gap following Psy’s success, another South Korean act made their mark on the Hot Rap Songs chart. Suga, also known as a member of BTS, collaborated with the late rapper Juice WRLD on “Girl of My Dreams,” which became a top 10 hit. He followed up this achievement just last month with his single “Haegeum,” which he released under the name Agust D.

Another BTS member, J-Hope, is the only other K-pop star to have made it to the Hot Rap Songs chart. He secured a pair of wins on the tally, the first in 2022 with “Arson” and then again earlier this year alongside J. Cole on their joint single “On the Street.”
