‘The Dragon Prince’ Season 5 Gets A Netflix Release Date, New Images

The next season of The Dragon Prince lands on Netflix this July. That’s a much smaller gap then the multi-year wait between Seasons 3 and 4. Season 5, also known as Book 5: Ocean, is part of a 7-season arc which Netflix has (thankfully) greenlit in its entirety.

When Season 3 released way back in 2019, before the pandemic upended our world and caused the delay of numerous TV shows, movies, games and more, I called it “one of the best fantasy shows on TV.” And while Season 4 didn’t quite live up to the greatness of the previous season, it did set up an exciting new arc with the Mystery of Aaravos.

That arc continues in Season 5. Wonderstorm, the studio behind the show, released this ominous poster a few weeks ago:

The poster is called The Wicked Depths. You can see a giant water dragon looming over a relatively tiny ship. Things do not look good for the crew.

Along with the July release reveal (there’s not a specific date yet), Wonderstorm shared a bunch of hi-res images on The Dragon Prince website. Here are a few.

In the first we see the Moonshadow elf, Rayla, talking in earnest with the magician, Callum. Things have been a bit strained between these two.

Rayla and Callum

It’s possible that young King Ezran and Callum are talking to an old friend here. Perhaps a certain sea captain? Bait looks as grumpy as ever.

The goofy looking creature in this came out of the cocoon that Aaravos’s bug spun. He’s been leading Claudia, Terry and Viren on their dark quest. Claudia and Terry are cute together, but it’s increasingly difficult to feel anything but horror at Claudia’s actions. She can be a lovely person—when she’s not murdering people.

Finally, Viren. The ambitious wizard is back from the dead thanks to his daughter, though not necessarily for good. He looks like he might be in a bit of a pickle here.

I moderated a panel with Wonderstorm’s creators at last year’s San Diego Comic Con where they revealed their upcoming project, Bonders. You can read all about that here.
