Sen. Tim Scott Announces Presidential Run—Trump’s Latest Challenger

Topline

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Friday to run for president in 2024, ending months of speculation about whether he would enter what is shaping up to be a crowded field for the GOP nomination.

Key Facts

Scott was widely expected to enter the race after launching an exploratory committee in April, coupled with a cross-country listening tour.

Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, also launched a $6 million ad campaign Friday and is expected to formally announce his candidacy on May 22.

In addition to former President Donald Trump, Scott joins former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and conservative talk show host Larry Elder in the race for the 2024 GOP nomination.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
