“Oh, You Wanted a Twist? All Stars 8, Let’s Get to Voting!”

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars is back, back, back again with its 8th installment and a never-before-seen twist.

After a short hiatus following season 15 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars has returned to streaming, but not everything is as it was when it aired previously. RuPaul, the host, and queen of drag herself, has ru-vealed a twist yet to be seen in any prior seasons of the show and its many incarnations. Now, queens have two different ways that they can finish the 8th All Stars season as a winner, but it’s not quite what you might think.

While there will still be a sole winner to get the one-year supply of Anastasia Beverly Hills, a coveted spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame, and the cash prize of $200,000, the eliminated queens will have a chance to snag their own cash prize of $50,000 in what RuPaul is referring to as “The Fame Games.”

At the end of each week’s untucked episode, the eliminated queens of the season will be able to show off looks they weren’t able to wear from that week’s runaway theme. At the end of the season, one queen will be dubbed the Queen of the Fame Games and awarded a cash prize. An exciting change for the show, but here’s where the twist comes in: Fans will be able to vote for which queen wins this title.

It’s been talked about amongst fans for years about whether their voices should be considered in who wins the show, and it looks like their prayers have been answered, just in a way they may not have previously expected. Some may remember that fans could vote for who they thought deserved the title of Miss Congeniality until season 10 when the queens were then tasked with deciding who amongst their sisters was the most congenial. It also seems that queens now can be rewarded for something most eliminated queens would already be doing on their own time.

For every season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, eliminated queens take to social media to showcase looks that they would’ve worn on various themed runways had they been able to progress further into the competition. For super fans of the show, feelings of despair are evoked over queens who may have been taken away from their screens prematurely, with queens from previous seasons like Kahmora Hall, Aura Mayari, Irene Dubois, and Alyssa Hunter showing just how formidable they would have been as competitors and referred to as “Look Queens,” as many fans have often christened them.

Now, whether they designed everything themselves or paid a designer, eliminated queens who’ve put so much effort into getting their looks together get to show off and potentially win something for it.

What do you think about the twist? Are you excited to vote for who think deserves to be the Queen of the Fame Games?

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 8 streams Friday’s on Paramount+ along with a companion Untucked episode, where fans can see the eliminated queens werk the runway at the end.
