Manchester United Simply Must Sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane

It has been a testing week for Manchester United, who found themselves on the receiving end of a humiliation given to them by Sevilla, but also progressing into the FA Cup final after beating Brighton & Hove Albion on penalties.

A tale of their season where the Red Devils have a set back in a disastrous manner that resets the team and is then turned into a run of positivity and good performances.

What is lacking, that is obvious beyond belief, is Manchester United’s desperate need for a new centre forward.

While they might have brought in Wout Weghorst on loan – who has done a job it must be said for the overall team performance – Erik Ten Hag will be pleading with the current and any potential new owners for a centre forward this summer.

Anthony Martial, who has returned to the fold in recent weeks, is inconsistent to say the least and has an injury record that suggests he cannot be relied upon going into next season. The smart move from the club side would be to sell him with one-year left on his deal.

Weghorst might be signed on a permanent basis going into the summer, but only as a third-choice striker. There have not been enough performances by the Dutch international which says that he is of the level to lead the line for the Red Devils and guarantee 20+ Premier

League goals per-season. However, Weghorst is a fantastic squad option to have off the bench and his enthusiasm and passion for the club has been noticeable.

That centre forward should be Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. Not only is his current club going through turmoil and looks set to miss out on the Champions League places for next season, but it is clear that Kane has reached the end of the line with Tottenham as trophy opportunities are becoming increasingly limited.

Kane is the only striker in world football who can guarantee 20+ Premier League goals coming into Manchester United next season. The likes of Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic are exciting, younger prospects, but there is no absolute that either of those will come into the Red Devils and hit the ground running.

The England captain is the perfect signing for Ten Hag in terms of the characteristics he possesses. His ability to come short and operate as the playmaker in between the lines will enable Marcus Rashford to go in behind the defence and utilise his speed, but also the fact that Kane is one of the world’s best finishers when in a one-on-one environment.

Manchester United fans will be hoping that Rashford and Kane can forge a relationship similar to the one Kane had with Heung-min Son under Mauricio Pochettino that became incredibly effective in the Premier League.

With one year left on his contract, Manchester United will be hoping that Kane is available at a sensible price, but there is no doubt that chairman Daniel Levy will be holding out for a fee of around £100 million.

Fans might question the price tag and suggest because Kane is 30 in July that it would represent a poor transfer. However, there is nothing to suggest that Kane will slow down over the next three years, nor does his game rely upon his speed across the ground. The Englishman is one of the most creative, dangerous and intellectual forwards in Europe that does not have blistering pace in his arsenal.

This transfer is as sure a deal as Manchester United are likely to ever have when looking at centre forwards. It is time to stop quibbling about the fee involved and make sure they land their number one target.
