Jack Black’s ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Single ‘Peaches’ Brings Him To The Hot 100 For The First Time (Alone)

Renowned entertainer–both in film and music–Jack Black is experiencing an especially prosperous period in his career with the recent success of his latest film The Super Mario Bros. Movie and a new hit single, which has just reached several Billboard charts.

This week, Black lands his first solo entry on the coveted Hot 100 chart with his song “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The tune debuts at No. 83 thanks to a total of 5.8 million streams and 6,000 sales in the past tracking frame, according to data provided by Luminate, the company that powers the Billboard charts.

“Peaches” stands out as the fourth-highest debut on this week’s Hot 100. Although it did not earn significant radio play, its sales and streams were strong enough for it to make it to the competitive tally of the 100 most-consumed tracks in the U.S. It comes in behind new releases from the likes of popular artists such as Drake, NF, and Lil Yachty.

The song’s digital sales are especially noteworthy, as they helped the cut debut at No. 6 on the Digital Song Sales chart. This tally solely ranks the tunes that have sold the most copies in the United States, while the Hot 100 includes other forms of consumption. The track’s debut sales of 6,000 copies are the second highest of this frame, coming in behind K-pop stars Agust D and IU, whose collaboration “People Pt. 2” has opened atop the tally.

It is no surprise that Black has managed to score the breakout hit from the film, as he voices the character of Bowser in the movie. The Super Mario Bros. Movie has become a massive success at the box office, despite receiving lukewarm reviews from critics.

Although Black may be a newcomer to the Hot 100 on his own, he has previously hit the chart as half of the comedy-rock duo Tenacious D. Their breakout hit, “The Pick of Destiny,” debuted and peaked at No. 78 way back in November 2006.
