Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito extended a hold on the lower court ruling until Wednesday, giving the justices more time to consider the ruling.
At issue is a decision by a Trump-appointed judge in Texas, District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, which suspended the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of mifepristone, an abortion pill that has had FDA approval for more than 20 years.
The Justice Department and the distributor of mifepristone both asked the Supreme Court to intervene and block the Texas judge’s ruling on Friday.
