Succession’s ‘Connor’s Wedding’ Is Now The Highest-Rated Episode Of Any Show Ever On IMDB

While by the end of the hour it was pretty clear that Succession’s “Connor’s Wedding” was the best episode of the series, as it turns out it may be the best…episode of TV of all time?

Okay, I mean, let’s calm down. There is of course subjectivity here so there can be no definitive “best episode ever” in everyone’s mind. But all we can do is use the internet and math to try and see the general consensus, and really the only place we can do that is IMDB. And right now, yes, Succession‘s “Connor’s Wedding” is the highest scoring episode of any series…ever on the site.

“Connor’s Wedding” is now beating out second place, Breaking Bad’s famous “Ozymandias” episode, the only other episode on the site listing a perfect 10 average. But with both at a 10, it seems Succession’s overall average is just a bit higher, albeit Breaking Bad has 194,000 reviews to Succession’s 17,000.

If you want to look at the overall list you may notice some…oddities, and that IMDB’s list can be a bit skewed toward some particularly devoted fanbases, namely of a lot of anime series. Here’s the top 10.

  1. “Connor’s Wedding” (Succession) – 10/10
  2. “Ozymandias” (Breaking Bad) – 10/10
  3. “Everyone’s Waiting” (Six Feet Under) – 9.9/10
  4. “Midnight Sun” (Attack on Titan) – 9.9/10
  5. “The View from Halfway Down” (BoJack Horseman) – 9.9/10
  6. “End of the Prologue” (Vinland Saga) – 9.9/10
  7. “Sozin’s Comet, Part 4: Avatar Aang” (Avatar: The Last Airbender) – 9.9/10
  8. “Plan and Execution” (Better Call Saul) – 9.9/10
  9. “Sleepytime” (Bluey) – 9.9/10
  10. “Re;” (Code Geass) – 9.9/10

So that’s just a pretty wild selection there. We have the Six Feet Under finale, which I can’t say is a huge shock, given how beloved it is. Four different anime episodes (and I’ve never actually heard of Code Geass). An episode of beloved kids program Bluey. The second to last episode of BoJack Horseman and the explosive midseason finale of Better Call Saul. Very diverse selection there. If you go further down the overall list you get more Breaking Bad, a lot more Attack on Titan episodes and a few Game of Thrones installments when the show was at its peak. I think in the top 30 there are 7 Attack on Titan episodes total, showing the fervor of that fanbase. The only other Succession episode in the list is the season 2 finale, “This is Not for Tears,” at #29 with a 9.8/10.

I don’t know if “Connor’s Wedding” will stay at the all-time number one slot over time, or if it may sink down a few places and leave “Ozymandias” at #1. But yes, I would consider it an all-time great of the medium, and it’s probably worth watching the entire series that leads up to that moment as you really need all that build-up before it. It really cannot be missed, and we’ll all be talking about it again when the Emmys happen this year.
