Reality Star Kim Kardashian Joining ‘American Horror Story’

Topline

Kim Kardashian is joining the cast of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story for the upcoming twelfth season, the billionaire reality TV star announced Monday on her Instagram, surprising fans with her biggest acting role to date.

Key Facts

Both Kardashian and American Horror Story regular Emma Roberts posted a teaser of the upcoming season of the FX show on their respective Instagrams, revealing that the upcoming season of Murphy’s anthology will be titled “Delicate” and will air this summer.

Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter Kardashian is “among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world” and said her role in the upcoming season will be “fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying.”

The upcoming season is reportedly based in part on the novel Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine, which tells the story of a woman who is “convinced a sinister figure is going to great lengths to make sure her pregnancy never happens,” according to the book description.

Since its inception in 2011, American Horror Story—which airs on FX and streams on Hulu—has cast a variety of big Hollywood names including Lady Gaga, Angela Bassett and Sarah Paulson.

Forbes Valuation

We estimate Kardashian is worth $1.2 billion, largely thanks to her shapewear brand Skims and KKW Beauty, her cosmetics and fragrance company. Kardashian first landed on Forbes’ billionaire list in 2021 and was No. 16 on Forbes’ list of the wealthiest self-made women in the U.S. last year.

Key Background

In the past few years, Kardashian has inched her way into the acting scene after years as a reality show titan. She’s made multiple cameos as herself in films like Ocean’s 8 and TV shows like 2 Broke Girls. Most recently, she voice acted in the film Paw Patrol and is set to do so again in the film’s sequel later this year. She also drew attention and praise for hosting Saturday Night Live in 2021.

Surprising Fact

American Horror Story airs on Hulu, the digital streaming service owned by Disney, as does the latest iteration of the Kardashian family’s reality TV show—a sign, perhaps, of the Kardashians’ loyalty to Disney.
