A Heavy Metal Rocker No One Suspected

Another mystery was solved on The Masked Singer Wednesday night.

One week after viewers were introduced to Doll—a button-eyed, raspy-voiced rocker in towering heels and a sparkling purple dress—the man behind the mask was revealed.

And he wasn’t anyone the show’s celebrity panel had suspected so far.

After putting on one last performance (Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock”) and getting guesses of David Lee Roth, Iggy Pop, Gene Simmons and Sebastian Bach, Doll proved to be ‘80s heavy metal icon Dee Snider, the frontman of Twisted Sister.

Just moments after the shocking reveal, Snider led the audience in a sing-along of his recently reunited band’s biggest hit, the 1984 classic “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”

But as one mystery came to an end, two more began.

First up was Dandelion, a smooth and soulful vocalist who impressed the panel with her rendition of Judy Garland’s “Over the Rainbow.”

The clues as to who was under the white seedhead included the word “billboards” and the following statement from the plant herself: “These heels were made for performing—TV, movies, concerts and even charting next to Olivia Rodrigo.”

The panel’s best guesses were Reese Witherspoon, Zooey Deschanel and Emmy Rossum. But they won’t find out if any of them got it right until at least next week, because when it came time for the Battle Royale performance, Dandelion proved victorious against her challenger.

And that challenger was Mantis, a tall, green arthropod in a studded leather jacket who belted out Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock & Roll” as his first track of the night.

His clue was “true story,” as well as this hint: “Representing a legend was key to my success, and it was an honor to do so.”

Could he be Dennis Quaid? Cole Hauser? Kevin Bacon? Or even Ken Jeong’s ridiculous guess of Bruce Springsteen? (No.) No one got the answer Wednesday night.

That’s because, even though Mantis lost the Battle Royale, which saw him and Danelion face off in dueling performances of “(I’ve Got a )Golden Ticket,” he got a last-minute save.

Just as the audience chanted “take it off,” panelist Robin Thicke gave the show’s “Ding Dong Keep It On” bell a whack, meaning both Mantis and Dandelion move on it the competition.

As for Snider, he now joins the list of Season 9 stars who’ve shown their faces so far, which includes Christine Quinn (Scorpio), George Wendt (Moose), Holly Robinson Peete (Fairy), Alexa Bliss (Axolotl), Lele Pons (Jackalope), Malin Akerman (Squirrel), Michael Bolton ( Wolf), Grandmaster Flash (Polar Bear), Debbie Gibson (Night Owl), Howie Mandel (Rock Lobster), Sara Evans (Mustang) and Dick Van Dyke (Gnome).
