Brock Lesnar Quickly Defeats Omos

Brock Lesnar, in just five minutes, defeated Omos with a massive F5 at WrestleMania 39, indicating that “The Beast” isn’t done in WWE just yet.

Over the past several months, the booking of Lesnar has been quite puzzling. Often a staple of WWE’s world title scene, Lesnar slid down to its midcard at the most pivotal time of the year. There may have been an explanation for that, however: Uncertainty surrounding his future.

Prior to WrestleMania 39, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t WrestlingNews.co) reported that “nobody” seemed to know what was going on with Lesnar and his WWE future after the 10-time world champion reportedly indicated that he’d be “finishing up” with the company soon.

But Lesnar doesn’t appear to be finishing up with WWE. Not now—and probably not anytime soon.

Although Lesnar’s contract, signed in 2021, is believed to be expiring right around WrestleMania 39, that is nothing new for one of the most pushed stars in WWE history. Since returning to the company in 2012, Lesnar has often signed short-term contracts that give him the flexibility to keep his options open and frequently sign more lucrative deals.

That’s helped Lesnar consistently rank as one of WWE’s highest paid stars alongside fellow top stars like Roman Reigns, and it’s also given Lesnar plenty of leverage when it comes to the booking of his character. In fact, Lesnar reportedly even nixed a potential WrestleMania 39 match with Bray Wyatt, which perfectly exemplifies the type of clout he has backstage in WWE.

So, why would he leave WWE anytime soon?

This is a new era in pro wrestling in which marquee stars, Lesnar included, are performing at an incredibly high level into their mid-to-late 40s or even early 50s. At this stage of his career, one would think that Lesnar would be used to put over younger stars like Omos, but Lesnar’s WrestleMania victory over “The Nigerian Giant” indicates that simply isn’t the case.

WWE’s typical booking of Lesnar usually means one of two things: Either he wins in clean, dominant fashion, or he loses cheaply, like he did against Bobby Lashley at Elimination Chamber. WWE rarely has Lesnar get pinned, and logic says the reason why is that WWE wants to keep him looking strong for the seemingly inevitable event that he re-signs and sticks around for the long haul.

With Lesnar having a very limited scheduled and often wrestling in short matches that rely heavily on big moves and very few bumps, he is in the ideal spot for an established legend who wants an easy workload but big paydays.

And given his win over Omos at WrestleMania 39, WWE likely will use him in that very same role moving forward, even if he disappears for a while before ultimately returning for the umpteenth time later this year.
