BTS’s Jimin Resets The Record For The Highest-Charting Album In U.S. History By A Korean Solo Musician

BTS member Jimin is set to make a historic debut on the Billboard 200 chart this week with his first studio album apart from the band that made him a star, Face. The set opens at No. 2 on this week’s upcoming chart, which ranks the most-consumed EPs and albums in the United States.

Data shared by Luminate reveals that Face moved 164,000 equivalent album units in its first week of availability. That’s a very healthy sum, and it’s enough to give him a spot in the history books. Face is now the highest-charting release in U.S. history on the Billboard 200 by a South Korean solo musician.

Before this week, that honor belonged to fellow BTS member RM. His solo effort Indigo once climbed to No. 3 just

According to Billboard, Face earns the loftiest starting point for a musician’s first placement on the Billboard 200 since Olivia Rodrigo dropped her debut album Sour. Despite having previously appeared on the chart as a member of BTS, this week marks Jimin’s first trip to the tally under his own name.

Out of the 164,000 equivalent album units earned by Face, pure sales comprise 124,000, with an additional 13,500 streaming equivalent units. The album’s half dozen songs also contributed 26,500 equivalent units from individual song sales.

Jimin faced stiff competition from other established artists on the Billboard 200, as it turned out to be a particularly busy frame for new arrivals. Face comes in second on this week’s chart, just behind Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time. That album earns its fourth consecutive week at No. 1 on the chart, having moved another 197,000 equivalent units this week.

Impressively, Face debuts higher than new efforts from Lana Del Rey, Luke Combs and Fall Out Boy, all of whom have previously reached No. 1 on the chart in the past.
