Cody Rhodes Or Roman Reigns? WWE Superstars Weigh In On WrestleMania 39 Main Event

WWE Superstars shared their thoughts on the WrestleMania 39 main event, and the vast majority feel Cody Rhodes will capture his first WWE world championship with a monumental win over Roman Reigns.

During a series of WrestleMania weekend interviews, WWE and NXT Superstars Bianca Belair, Carmelo Hayes, Legado Del Fantasma, Valhalla, Ivar, Zoey Stark and Grayson Waller all picked Cody Rhodes to walk away as Undisputed WWE Universal champion. Mavericks Erik and Rhea Ripley, however, think Roman Reigns will retain and continue his marathon run of dominance.

Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns are set to wrestle one of the most important matches in WWE history, and one that seems to represent a sea change in the company. Roman Reigns, WWE’s top star for most of the past decade, is currently in the midst of his most dominant run as world champion. Reigns has not been pinned or submitted in close to 1,000 days, and Cody Rhodes represents Reigns’ stiffest competition, especially if you ask the oddsmakers.

As of this writing, Rhodes is currently a sizable -800 favorite to dethrone Roman Reigns. This represents the first time Reigns has been an underdog in a world championship match since his reign began in August of 2020. The United States of America has joined oddsmakers in its lean toward The American Nightmare as 62% of the country feels Rhodes will defeat Reigns.

States backing Rhodes include Alabama, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey and California, where WrestleMania 39, Night 2 will emanate from Inglewood. Reigns, meanwhile, has support from Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida and Hawaii.

Cody Rhodes, and WWE creative, picked up right where Sami Zayn left off as a red-hot babyface who served as a legitimate threat to upend Reigns’ empire. Rhodes has not lost a match since returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38, and one year later he is on the doorstep of realizing his dream and finishing the story. And while Rhodes remains an overwhelming favorite based on storyline, oddsmakers, national and locker room polls, nothing is guaranteed in this business.

WWE loves its milestones, and Reigns is just 61 days from surpassing 1,000 days as Universal champion. Though this would be an impressive modern-day feat, it would seem to come at the expense of a lightning-in-a-bottle babyface in Cody Rhodes. Both John Cena and Roman Reigns battled mixed reactions throughout their runs as WWE’s top babyface. The universal cheers for Cody Rhodes’ is something WWE has not experienced with its top babyface in multiple generations, so to throw that away for a number seems silly.

Further indicating a Rhodes win, the WrestleMania 39 Night 1 main event saw Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens dethrone the record tag team title run of The Usos in a fantastic match.

Nobody will know for sure what the finish will be Sunday night, but all signs suggest that the historic reign of the Tribal Chief could be down to its final hours.
